The Protestant church of St. Martin stands on the castle hill in the town center. It was first mentioned in 1314. In 1503 and 1698, renovations had to be carried out after major fires in the town. In 1717, the church tower was rebuilt. The church survived the major fire in 1724 unscathed (and only 16 houses in Meerane did), so the church tower can still be seen in this form today. In 1825 and 1883, St. Martin's Church was expanded, and since then it has been able to accommodate 1,500 visitors.
