In the 13th century, Premonstratensian monks built the three-aisled basilica with a transept and a richly structured eastern section. Inside, above the altar, there is a forked crucifix from the 14th century and paintings by the Merzig painter Heinrich Klein based on designs by Prof. Eduard von Steine (Frankfurt) from 1889 (information board on site).

Numerous Baroque works of art, including a figural ensemble by Wolfgang Stupeler (around 1700), a Pietà (17th century), a forked crucifix (14th century), and paintings in the style of the Nazarene School (1889, by Heinrich Klein of Merzig, based on designs by Eduard von Steinle).
