The Lower Hüttenteich, also known as the Factorieteich, is the largest of the three Hüttenteich ponds. It is almost 150 m wide and about 100 m long. An artificial island is located approximately in the middle of the pond.
In periods of low rainfall, the water stored in the Hüttenteich ponds served as a water reservoir for the supply of fresh water.
A distinction was made between the Upper and Lower Hüttenteich ponds. A third artificial pond, filled in at the beginning of the 20th century, was located between the workers' houses and the cooking house.
