It's always fun to stroll through the narrow streets of the old Bur Dubai souk. The main street of the market runs parallel to the creek about 200 meters away. From the Deira side you can reach the Old Souk by water taxi with the destination Bur Dubai.
The old, quite useful, powerful wooden construction that seals off the streets from above is characteristic and protects from the hot sun. The beam framework is regularly maintained and checked. The clothing and fabric souk is a cultural heritage and the local population is of course very proud of it. At least not much has changed here for many years.
The Old Souk can be explored on a stroll (approx. 45 minutes) before taking the water taxi from Bur Dubai Abra Station to the spice and gold souk on the other side in Deira.

Intoxicating scents in the spice market
Just a few meters from the banks of Dubai Creek, you will be enchanted by oriental smells and bright colors, as this is where the Spice Souk, the traditional spice market, is located, which is a true feast for the senses. The narrow, winding streets smell of cloves, vanilla and rose water - typically Arabian.
Cardamom and cinnamon from India, frankincense and myrrh from Oman and saffron from Iran are available in large quantities. There are also colorful embroidered pashmina scarves, oriental fragrance oils and perfumes in great bottles, sandalwood and incense sticks, delicious pistachios and almonds.
Arabic tea, camel milk chocolate, fresh dates and those covered in white chocolate are popular gifts for those staying at home. You should definitely haggle, because that's part of an oriental market!

        Dubai City of Gold
At the Gold Souk, or Dubai City of Gold, which is located right next to the spice market, everything that glitters is actually gold. Local traders offer their golden goods in over 300 small jewelry stores. I had it explained to me that the respective price for chains, watches and rings depends on the current gold value and results from the weight and purity of the gold.
Even if you don't want to buy gold, it's worth strolling through the many small shops and taking a closer look at the cluttered shop windows.
