On this southern slope in Meer there was a large Gallo-Roman farm complex between 130 and 280 AD, with a villa Rustica, outbuildings and lands.
To preserve the site for further archaeological research, the plots were removed from agriculture (exchanged within the Willebringen land consolidation scheme) and sown with grass.
The research trenches were made visible as roadsides and at various locations you can view a 3D animation of what it would have looked like at that time on your smartphone via QR code.
Or you can simply enjoy the beautiful view from the meter-long sofa.

Hiking
The main building on the Roman site Meer was approximately 660 m² (22 x 30 m). It housed the villa's residents. And that's just one tidbit from a very nice and well-written educational brochure of a whopping 52 pages.
