Weinzierl Castle was originally a medieval estate, which was expanded in the 18th century by Johann Carl Weber von Fürnberg in the Baroque style and thus still characterizes the complex today.
At the end of the 18th century Weinzierl Castle came into imperial-Habsburg ownership.

In 1883 the palace was given to the "Kaiser Franz Joseph Asylum Association", who built a home for orphans there. After this use was more or less discontinued after World War I, the Francisco Josephinum moved to Weinzierl Castle in 1934.
