A beautiful view of the tranquil little town. Just take a short break, enjoy the impressions and capture the beautiful perspectives. The view over the Danube to Ybbs, with the majestic Alps in the background, is definitely a panorama worth seeing. This view combines the idyllic river landscape of the Danube with the impressive mountain peaks, which makes the region a special highlight for cyclists.

Ybbs is located on the Danube at the exit of the Strudengau and the transition to the Nibelungengau. Ybbs was originally a settlement around the Ybbsburg on a rocky plateau in the area of today's church square. The old town from the 13th century with irregularly arranged plots and building cubes as well as narrow, winding streets is bordered by the Danube and the semicircular city moat.
The city moat is a deep ditch along the outside of the partially preserved city wall. The watchtowers of Ybbs were part of the fortifications of the Danube Limes. The buildings that still exist today are predominantly late medieval/early modern. The facades, however, are characterized by the reconstruction after the fire in 1868.
In the Middle Ages, east-west goods traffic was mainly carried out on the Danube. Ybbs was one of the most important Danube ports and, alongside Linz and Klosterneuburg, one of the three main toll stations.
From 1637 there was regular shipping between Vienna and Regensburg with a landing stage in Ybbs. Since 1639, Ybbs was also a salt loading place for salt from the area around Gmunden.
