Immediately after the liberation, the people of Modena began to exhibit photos of their missing relatives here. Later, the photos of the city's fallen partisans were exhibited here, becoming a sort of "spontaneous" memorial, with a total of 1,370 photos collected by the local ANPI. In 1951, the local government ordered the removal of the city's most representative building, but protests ultimately prevented it from being carried out. Today it is the most famous monument to the Resistance in the province of Modena.
