Anyone who has ever driven on the road from Diest to Tienen has probably seen a signpost to the center of Waanrode, "the flower village". In this image you will find a series of prizes and nominations that Waanrode once received for its flowers and much more. The statue is called "The Tower Turner". And that is the nickname for the residents of Waanrode. For those interested, there is a not too long walk with that name: the Toren Draaiers walk. I walked a bit on the path during a tour from Assent to Waanrode and back. A large part runs along fruit plantations, so blossom lovers can certainly also go here. There is also a stretch through a lovely little forest and the chance that you will encounter deer is not small, I already saw two between the forest and the fruit trees. Something about the statue and the many honorary plaques you will find on it: it was founded in 1989 on the occasion of 850 years of Waanrode. The artist on duty was Gerard Moonen from Hasselt and you immediately see what it is about.
