Here you can watch deer with mighty antlers, mother animals and also calves. A forest and game adventure trail has been set up around the enclosure.

Vital red deer and a fourteen-year-old that amazes!

Since December 2018 there has been a new attraction just outside the city of Fürth: the deer enclosure in the Fürth city forest is easy to reach.

Hinds, calves and red deer with powerful antlers - this is the current occupation in the red deer enclosure in the Fürth city forest (as of June 2020). On two hectares there is enough space to graze, relax in the shade of the trees or cool off at several watering holes. The animals are used to open grassy areas, but also like to use the cover of the light birch and pine forests.

After the extremely popular wild boar enclosure, the red deer is another attraction for all animal lovers, day trippers, walkers as well as children and families. After a few months of getting used to them, the animals have become much more trusting and are happy about crunchy chestnuts and juicy dandelion leaves.

The area was made possible through the financial support of a bank, a foundation and the city of Fürth. A “forest wildlife adventure trail” – a kind of forest nature trail – is planned for 2019, which leads from the Grüner Felsenkeller to the deer enclosure. Display boards will provide information about forest inhabitants, trees and plants as well as the tasks of foresters (update: completion has been delayed due to Corona).

Deer enclosure in the Fürth city forest: directions, parking, address

The deer enclosure is located near the Burgfarrnbach earth and construction waste dump. However, the Grüner Felsenkeller in the Fürth city forest is much better known, a popular and large beer garden with a nice selection of food and drinks. From there it's just a few minutes walk or bike ride to the deer enclosure. The route of around 500 meters is well signposted.
