    From far away you can see another landmark of Cadolzburg that is visible from afar: the lookout tower, popularly known as the “pencil”. Built in 1893 by Münchner Lokalbahn-AG and the Cadolzburg market, it has already served many visitors as a popular destination.

    The “Rangaubahn” had been driving from Fürth to the Frankenmarkt since 1892 to admire the beautiful fruit blossom and the fantastic distant view of the Rangau. Even today, every visitor who climbs the 143 steps is rewarded with a remarkable view.

      The 25 meter high observation tower (colloquially "pencil") was built at a high point in the town in 1893 by the local railway company (LAG) Munich in neo-Gothic style to promote excursion traffic to Cadolzburg.[42]

      In clear weather, it offers a far-reaching all-round view. It used to be a popular excursion destination, especially for the people of Fürth, who took the train to Cadolzburg at the weekend or especially when the cherry trees were in blossom ("in die Bläih"). A square wooden staircase leads up five floors. About halfway up is a small balcony on the north side of the tower, accessible through a wooden door. Slightly tapered in the upper part, the covered viewing platform juts out over consoles. At the end is a spire with four decoratively protruding windows on each side. The tower can be climbed for a donation and is generally open unguarded from sunrise to sunset.
