The Ballenhaus Schongau was built as a cupboard for the storage of goods and above it there were previously rooms of the Schongau city administration. A characteristic feature of the free-standing building are the stepped gables on the north and south sides.[1] It is located between Marienplatz and Lindenplatz.

The Ballenhaus is located in the middle of Marienplatz. It used to be a warehouse and council building. The building is a late Gothic saddle roof construction with a stepped gable from 1420. In 1515 it was expanded and renovated. In 1989 a comprehensive renovation including conversion took place. Today there is a restaurant in the building.
