The Monument aux Morts in the Parc de Richelieu in Calais is a memorial to those who died during the wars. The monument was originally erected in 1926, eight years after the end of World War I, and was the work of Albert Parenty. However, the monument was destroyed during the bombings in May 1940.
In August 1956, compensation of 10 million francs was awarded to the city for the reconstruction of the monument. The realization of the project was entrusted to Yves de Coëtlogon12. The new monument was inaugurated on July 6, 1962. The monument stands on the spot where the Monument des Six Bourgeois, a work by Rodin, stood in 1895. This monument is an important part of Calais' cultural and historical heritage.
