is one of the venues of the Salzburg Festival. The Great Festival Hall, together with the House for Mozart (i.e. the former Small Festival Hall), the Felsenreitschule and the Stadtsaal, belonged to the former prince-archbishop's court stables (Hofmarstall).

Work on the Great Festival Hall began in 1956 with the removal of around 55,000 cubic metres of conglomerate from the Mönchsberg wall. The former royal stables were converted into a break room. Floor mosaics with horse heads remind us of its original purpose. The architect chosen was none other than Clemens Holzmeister. He had already made a name for himself in the 1920s as the builder of the Small Festival Hall.
