The Krügersche Haus is - as the oldest surviving building in the city - a very special eyewitness in Geesthacht. A visit is definitely worth it, because today the quaint half-timbered house houses the museum and the Tourist Information Geesthacht.

The house was built in 1723 in the manner of a Low German hall house. In the 18th century, two additions were added to the front ends, so that the building stands both eave and gable to the road. This striking facade has been preserved to this day.

I do not know what the number 1723 refers to as "year of construction". In a publication I found the following statement:

"The Krügersche Haus was built at the beginning of the 17th century as a Low German hall building, and in the 18th century two additions were added to the front end. In 1934, the thatched roof was replaced by a pan roof." Source: BOEHART, W., KNUST, H .: Time jumps Geesthacht, Erfurt 2005

According to another source, the house was built in 1676. That would make it the oldest house.

The GeesthachtMuseum! is located together with the tourist information in a historic house - the so-called Krüger House. It was built at the beginning of the 18th century as a Low German hall house. After two major fires (1887 and 1928), it is the oldest surviving building in the city. After a renovation, it was given the function of a museum, archive and cultural meeting place for the city of Geesthacht in 1988. The city archive is now located in the city's town hall. The permanent exhibition, which was built in 2005, is currently being renovated and is therefore closed. The GeesthachtMuseum! is currently showing changing exhibitions - from art projects to topics related to urban and industrial history.
