Suhorn Hut and Viewpoint

The hut towers above the unique landscape. In that respect, a great break. A real off-road highlight in combination with the Suhorn Trail.

If there is one place where you can best enjoy the vastness of the Lüneburg Heath, then it is the Suhorn, next to the Wilseder Berg.At a height of 108 m there is a viewing hut from which you have a wide view over the Wümmetal with its heather fields. You can see juniper, forests and heather as far as the horizon. A breathtaking panorama in every season. When the heather is in bloom, this spot is of course very popular, but even in winter, when the heather has calmed down and the air is clear and cold, the place retains its magic.Take binoculars with you, because there is always something to discover. You can watch birds, deer or cranes from up here. It is also very beautiful at sunset on the Surhorn, because the sun sets directly opposite. Please remember that you are in a nature reserve and behave accordingly.

The Suhorn rises gently from the surrounding heathland and offers a breathtaking view of the Wümmemoor valley and the Wümmeberg opposite (104 m). The hiking trail over the Suhorn is marked, easy to walk on and offers safe footing. Many benches along the way invite you to linger and enjoy.On the ridge of the Suhorn you will find the VNP Suhorn refuge (108 m), which was donated by the Domizlaff family on the occasion of the 125th birthday of Hans Domizlaff (VNP chairman 1943-1953; † 1975). The hut protects visitors from wind and weather and at the same time offers the opportunity to observe the wildlife without disturbance. The flora and fauna around the Suhorn are characterized by great diversity. Especially in late summer, the landscape turns into a veritable sea of flowers. The purple flowering heather stretches as far as the eye can see and gives the hill a unique charm. Numerous bird species such as the nightjar, the green woodpecker, the woodlark, the crane and even the black grouse find their home here and can be observed singing.
