The Hohenpeißenberg Meteorological Observatory is the oldest mountain weather station in the world. The observatory is located at 977 m above sea level on the Hohen Peißenberg, about 20 kilometers from the edge of the Alps and about 60 kilometers southwest of Munich in Bavaria. It is affiliated with the German Weather Service (DWD), conducts ozone research, aerosol and trace gas measurements and radar meteorology, and carries out weather observations.
