The beginning of the bathing culture with the bathing carts used from around 1800 is very interesting. These were pulled into knee-deep water by horses or servants. This meant that you could get into the water directly from the bathing cart. Of course, at that time this was strictly separated into men and women 😉🤭 Later, around 1900 - when the bathing culture on Norderney was becoming more and more popular - the west beach was allocated to women and the men were given the section of beach from Georgshöhe at a reasonable distance.
