The Krefeld Uerdinger Rheinbrücke was built between 1933 and 1936 and then inaugurated as the Adolf Hitler Bridge. In March 1945 it was blown up by the retreating Wehrmacht. After the war, it was mostly rebuilt from the destroyed parts of the bridge and is considered one of the last fake suspension bridges over the Rhine. It is now a listed building.

"The Krefeld-Uerdingen Rhine Bridge dates from the 1930s. The shape of the bridge is characterized by the continuous truss longitudinal girder and follows the American models of large suspension bridges.

      Prehistory:

Before a bridge was built, a ferry was used in Uerdingen for centuries. The first Uerdingen Bridge was built in 1795 by Napoleonic troops to conquer Düsseldorf and was temporarily made of pontoons. In the course of the railway expansion on the Lower Rhine, in 1851 in the form of a connection to Homberg and Mönchengladbach, and in 1856 also from Krefeld to Cologne, people in the city of Uerdingen hoped for a railway bridge. The wishes were not fulfilled.
