In 1818, an important peace congress took place in Aachen, attended by the Prussian king, the Russian tsar, and the Austrian emperor. To commemorate this event, the Congress Monument was erected on Adalbertsteinweg in 1822. In the 1920s, it was finally relocated to the city park.
