On the summit of the Kröndlhorn (2,444 meters) there is no summit cross, but a small chapel. The following story explains why: Many years ago, the Kummerer farmer lived with his wife in Westendorf. The two tried several times to start a family and have children – but without success.

One day the couple was lucky, the farmer's wife gave birth to a child. However, the baby was so seriously ill that the doctors gave him little chance of survival. Out of desperation, the farmer prayed to God: If the child survived and got well, he would build a memorial chapel at the highest point in the village. The farmer kept his promise.
