Forerunner buildings to Leyenburg Castle were already mentioned in 1349. From 1772 the palace was rebuilt as a rococo hunting lodge by the von der Leyen family of silk manufacturers from Krefeld. In the 19th century, some modifications were made to its present form.

The former castle park is now divided by Vluyner Straße. The Moorish Pavilion [komoot.de/highlight/479021], which belongs to Leyenburg Castle, is across the street.
