The Hacksteinskuhlen form part of the Littardkuhlen.
The Littardkuhlen, on the other hand, are a remnant of old courses of the Rhine.
In the north, east and west, the Rheurdt / Littard state forest is surrounded by a ditch and standing water system of former peat hollows (the aboveground mining of peat is known as peat digging), which are located in the neighboring Rheurdt-Schaephuysener Kuhlenzug nature reserve. The relatively near-natural habitat is separated from the surrounding agriculturally used areas by the Kuhlenzug. The Littardsche Kendel flows through the Hacksteinskuhlen (Kendel (mhd.) = Pipe, gutter, water pipe).Private jetties on the Hacksteinskuhlen reveal its use as a fishing and bathing lake. Alders, ash trees and willows form a dense wood on the banks, behind which the hollows are hidden.

Often the small paths are quite muddy. Sturdy shoes are an advantage. 😁

Even in winter the water is totally idyllic, you could hear the birds everywhere, it was chirping and splashing everywhere, beautiful!
