The old quarry at Konnsberg opens up the interior of this striking basalt hill. Particularly in the central part of the quarry, powerful, upright basalt columns can be seen, which become slimmer towards the left edge. Konnsberg is its own small volcano on the edge of the large tertiary eruption center of the Reichsforst and Teichelberg. This was active about 23.4 plus/minus 0.8 million years ago.

The Konnsberg volcano is the largest in the south-eastern rim of the large Teichelberg volcanic complex. Hirschentanz and Ruheberg (Reichsforst). The volcano is 23.4 +/- 0.8 million years old. The vertical position in the central part indicates that it is a former lava lake.
In the summit area there are also remains of rocks and boulders below.
