"The Werth House (12th century Wert), built in the Isselbruch area, belonged to a knight of Werth around 1300 as a fief of the Münster Abbey. From a narrow strip of marshland near the Mussum Mark north of the Issel River, the Lordship of Werth developed in the 14th century, and the Lordship of Wertherbruch arose in the southern Isselbruch. A fortified castle, Werth, is mentioned in 1316. A settlement formed west of the castle, which received certain town privileges in 1426. A chapel stood on the castle grounds in 1336.
