The PWV-Ritterstein No. 142 refers to the 100-foot distant source, the so-called Heidenbrunnen. It used to be called cattle drinking trough, the old stone trough is still preserved and full of spring water. A little above was the former old high road and the cattle could be supplied with water here.

This is one of over 300 knight's stones of the Palatinate Forest Association.
He "points [with his arrow, at the bottom left of the stone] to a well that is 100 steps to the south. [...] There is also an old stone trough at the well, which probably served as a cattle trough for the cattle farmers passed there with their animals. The name of the fountain can probably be traced back to the former users of the fountain - the heathen. (Eitelmann, p. 115)"
