Built between 1883 and 1885 for the Germania insurance companies, the building was renamed Gallia in 1918.
The building houses the first secular university restaurant in France, managed by the General Federal Union of Strasbourg Students.
Following renovations from 2015 to 2017 at a cost of €14 million, the building offers modern student accommodations.
The central section originally featured a distinctive gable that was lost during World War II.
