"The parish church of St. Joseph in Herne-Wanne-Süd is a Roman Catholic parish church in the Wanne-Süd pastoral association [...] The monumental building made of Ruhr sandstone was built between 1910 and 1911 according to the plans of the architect Johann Carl Pinnekamp (1872-1955). Due to its location between three streets, the church was planned with three front sides. The building, with a rectory planned and built at the same time, is part of the late phase of historicism, which strives for monumentality and already shows a reduction in the formal language. [...] The neo-Romanesque church is faced with Ruhr sandstone bosses of different sizes. On the west side facing the main street is the massive, four-storey tower on a transverse rectangular floor plan. Here, based on the model of the building of San Zeno Maggiore in Verona, a vestibule is placed in front of it, which, following its Italian model, is guarded by three lion sculptures that lie on sandstone pedestals and are carved from Ibbenbüren sandstone."Source and further information: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Joseph_(Herne-Wanne)
