The Bopparder Hamm is the largest contiguous wine-growing region on the Middle Rhine. The name "Hamm" is derived from "hamus" (Latin: hook, bend) and thus refers to the largest loop of the entire Rhine. The favorable climatic conditions in the Bopparder Hamm produce absolutely top-quality wines every year. The most important grape variety in the Hamm is the "queen of grapes", the Riesling. In addition, the white wine varieties Weißburgunder, Grauburgunder (Ruländer) and Müller-Thurgau ("Rivaner") as well as the red wine grapes Spätburgunder and Dornfelder are grown.
