An extensive alluvial forest accompanies the strongly meandering course of the Simmelsberger Gründlach stream north of Nuremberg. Typical tree species in these periodically flooded wetlands are black alder, ash and pedunculate oak. In the shrub layer you can find alder buckthorn, bird cherry and black elder. (Source: baysf.de)
