There has been a bridge at the location of the Blokhuisbrug for a long time, also with that name. In the archives we already encounter the name in a document from 1696. In a document from 1805 we even see the name Blokhuisbrug listed as a place of residence. The bridge formed the border between the municipalities of Woerden and Rietveld until 1964.

Because the name Blokhuisbrug is not just a name. And it does not take its name from the café that was once there: café 't Blokhuis. Because it was the other way around, the café took its name from the bridge. There was once a bakery on the site of the café and nowadays you will find coffee shop De Steeg there.
