The castle of Matagne-La-Petite was owned by the Hamal family, who already owned the castle of Vierves-sur-Viroin, until August 12, 1794. It was sold as a national asset and was purchased by André Robert, the older brother from the conventional Pierre-François-Joseph Robert who became the owner until 1810 with his wife, Louise-Félicité de Kéralio. The castle was then purchased by Pierre-Antoine Renson, whose family occupied the site until the 1920s, when it was sold to Carmelites from France who settled there in 1924.

The Carmelites transformed the place significantly by building very important structures at the back of the castle.

After a very important building campaign in the 1990s, the Carmelites donated the castle to UCL, turning it into a seminary center.

In 2010, the UCL finally sold the castle to the Doische municipal council, which set up several activity centers there. (Wikipedia)
