The promenade along the city canal was built between the Steintorturm and the Sankt-Annen Bridge as early as 1843. The city canal and the adjacent city wall served as a means of protection and transport for centuries. The Sankt-Annen Promenade developed along the city wall from a narrow area between the moat that flowed around Brandenburg's Neustadt and the city wall. The city wall itself and its embankment were built on the excavation of this moat. The promenade was redesigned in 2006 and is now a beautiful path.
