The island's name comes from 1962, when Soviet cosmonaut Gherman Titov traveled to Halong Bay with then-President Ho Chi Minh. The Vietnamese were incredibly honored by the visit, as Titov became the second person to orbit the Earth last year (and just four months after fellow Russian Yuri Gagarin).
