The statue depicts five emaciated, vulnerable human figures standing close together, leaning on and holding onto each other. This represents the exhaustion, misery AND mutual support during this arduous journey. The pedestal consists of three concrete blocks deliberately stacked askew to symbolize the disruption of that time.
