The incredulous apostles are gathered around the empty tomb, while the Virgin, accompanied by angels, partly carved and partly painted, ascends to heaven, on which the fresco depicting Christ is painted. The sculptural group is the work of Francesco Silva, possibly assisted by his son Agostino. Only the Maria Assunta is attributed to Martino Retti or Giovanni Maria Palanchino.
The frescoes, begun in 1698 by Stefano Maria Legnani, alias Il Legnanino, were completed by Pietro Gilardi.
