The stone flames on the jars at the corners of the balustrade prefigure the theme of Pentecost.
The Virgin and the eleven apostles in the center of the scene, receiving the flame of the Holy Spirit accompanied by the white dove, are the work of Francesco Silva and his workshop, while the frescoes (after 1684?) are by Federico Bianchi. He was helped by the brothers Girolamo and Giovan Battista Grandi, who are the authors of the complex architectural setting.
