The church was built (based on what I could research) in 1895. But already from 1851 there was a nursery and a small church. Funding of the impressive church started with the the French missionary Elau at the Tang Tomb parish in 1874, when he donated a large sum of money to the Diocese of Shanghai.
The church is built in a gothic style. The tower is about 30m in height and the church provides space for up to 3000 people.

At the time of my visit the church (as most churches) was closed.

Not sure about opening times of the church. At the time of my visit all gates were locked.
