In 1993, the fragment of the dome in this area was recovered from the pile of rubble and finally put up here in 2005.

On the back of this old dome fragment, you can read the following on a plaque:

“…When I was looking for the dome in the milky fog on Thursday, February 15th at around 11 a.m. as I entered the dead city, I was shocked to see nothing, because an hour earlier my wife had been looking for me and witnessed this tragedy when, after an initial quiet crackling, the dome slowly collapsed and then with a tremendous bang the outer walls of the church burst and a night-black cloud of dust filled the entire area…” noted Church Inspector Weimert in February 1945
