"The Herbringhauser Dam (until 2006 “Upper Herbringhauser Dam”) was built from 1898 to 1901 by the city of Barmen (today Wuppertal-Barmen).
The dam serves to supply drinking water to the city of Wuppertal. The Wupperverband has owned the Herbringhauser Dam since 2016.
The dam was rebuilt and renovated several times during its operation. In 1933 the structure was raised by 4 m. Between 2000 and 2003, the wall received a water-side geomembrane seal (plastic sealing membrane) that was applied to the existing shotcrete shell. In 2004, the dam and the area in front of it were placed under monument protection.
From 2015 to 2016, the air side of the dam was renovated..."
