The Sander Tannen forests are a forest ridge of approximately 1.5 square kilometers in size in the Hamburg district of Lohbrügge, located directly above the Geest slope.

The forest is surrounded by residential areas on three sides, and to the south it is bisected by the Bundesstraße 5 (Federal Highway), which was built – not without controversy – in the 1950s.

It is a mixed forest with some moderately large sand dunes. The main attractions are a forest playground and the old Lohbrügge water tower, "Sander Dickkopp," built at the highest point in the district at 38 meters.

In the 1990s, the "Eiffel Tower" (a red and white television transmission tower made of metal lattice struts), located in the immediate vicinity of the water tower and built in the 1960s, was replaced by the taller Hamburg-Lohbrügge telecommunications tower made of concrete.

The ASV Bergedorf 85 football stadium and the Sander Tannen Gymnasium (high school) on Ladenbeker Weg were also named after the "Sander Tannen" (Sander Tannen). However, the latter only existed from 1971 to the end of the 1980s and was replaced by the Bergedorf Comprehensive School, which opened on the same site in 1979 and has been called the Bergedorf District School since 2010.

The Walter Hammer Trail leads directly into the sparse forest. You won't miss the fact that the greenery grows on sandy ground with a slope. The Sander firs cover approximately one and a half square kilometers on the Geest ridge.

The mixed forest is managed and reforested by the Bergedorf Forestry Office.

In addition to extensive dog runs, a forest playground awaits young visitors.

At a height of 38 meters, at the highest point of the site, stands a massive water tower from 1907, aptly named "Sander Dickkopp."

Constructed of brick, it served as an observation tower even at the time of its construction.

You can find the Sander Tannen at Höperfeld or at the "Sander Dickkopp" water tower at Richard-Linde-Weg 21F, 21033 Hamburg
