The forest is surrounded by residential areas on three sides, and to the south it is bisected by the Bundesstraße 5 (Federal Highway), which was built – not without controversy – in the 1950s.
It is a mixed forest with some moderately large sand dunes. The main attractions are a forest playground and the old Lohbrügge water tower, "Sander Dickkopp," built at the highest point in the district at 38 meters.

The mixed forest is managed and reforested by the Bergedorf Forestry Office.
In addition to extensive dog runs, a forest playground awaits young visitors.
At a height of 38 meters, at the highest point of the site, stands a massive water tower from 1907, aptly named "Sander Dickkopp."
