In the High Middle Ages, Regensburg was a political center of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation and a flourishing European trading center. The old town is an exceptional example of an intact medieval trading town (inclusion criterion iv). In 2006 UNESCO added the old town of Regensburg with Stadtamhof to the World Heritage List.
