Like the Plothen ponds, the Wolche pond area was created by monks in the Middle Ages. The original 250 ponds were merged into larger pond systems in the 1980s. The area takes its name from an estate that is said to have been here before the Thirty Years' War. The ruthless administrator at the time was cursed by a begging woman and has had to wander around with his head under his arm ever since.
