The Holy Spirit Church in the Karlsruhe district of Daxlanden is the second largest Catholic church in Karlsruhe. Not only the building, but also the story of its creation is remarkable.
By the end of the 19th century, the St. Valentine's Church had become too small for the Catholics of Daxlanden. Since an extension was not possible, it was decided to build a second church despite the lack of funds. After the Rhine port opened in 1901, more and more workers who supported the Social Democrats came to Daxlanden. In order to provide a counterbalance, there was now pressure to build a church.
With the incorporation of Daxlanden into Karlsruhe in 1910, the necessary funds became available.
The three-aisled basilica with a deliberately asymmetrical basic shape and an exceptionally high tower of 53 meters was consecrated in 1912.

In front of the church there is a small park with the Schlaucher fountain, which shows the main sources of income in early Daxlanden: fishing, agriculture and gold panning in the Rhine, which was still widely branched at the time.
