Until the end of the 18th century, the large building was only a small restaurant for carters.
On his return from the Russian campaign, Napoleon Bonaparte ate something warm in his carriage in front of the inn. Later, after the Battle of Leipzig, Napoleon took a break in Vacha on October 26, 1813 and wrote a letter to his wife Marie-Louise.
The building survived the city fire of 1878 because it was shielded by a stone structure.
Between 1911 and 1912 the Hotel Adler was rebuilt to its current appearance.

The Hotel zum Adler used to be an inn. There is evidence that Napoleon stayed here in 1812 after his successful Russian campaign. In total, Napoleon passed through Vacha five times.
