The Cu Chi Tunnels are an extensive network of underground passages used in the Vietnam War. Ventilation and drainage were essential for controlling airflow, temperature, and humidity.
Ventilation systems: Initially, natural ventilation channels and shaft openings were used, supplemented by simple mechanical solutions such as ventilation shafts, air kites, and pipes to draw fresh air into the tunnels from above.
Camouflage: To make detection more difficult, entrances and shafts were often concealed in the surrounding embankments, grassy/leafy areas, or in the ground. Wooden cladding, earth mounds, and vegetation helped to visually disguise the shafts.
