The church was built between 1713 and 1715 to give the residents of Stadtamhof and Steinweg a memorial in gratitude for the end of the plague epidemic of 1713.
A Stations of the Cross leads from Steinweg up to the Trinity Hill and ends at the chapel below the church.

Other activities
Despite precautions, the spread of the Black Death from the Imperial City of Regensburg to Stadtamhof and Steinweg around 1713 could not be prevented. Initially, the plague was confined to the Imperial City of Regensburg south of the Danube.
Various measures were implemented to prevent the plague from spreading to Stadtamhof and Steinweg. One such measure was the use of an iron chest, chained to the gate of the Stone Bridge, as a means of postal transmission.
