The Kapbuschsee is a quarry lake created by sand or gravel mining in the Heinsberg district of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is located between the Hückelhoven districts of Hilfarth and Brachelen on the L 364. The Kapbusch natural pool is located in the lake, a large natural outdoor pool with a leisure area maintained by the city of Hückelhoven. The lying and playing area is over 50,000 m². The German Life Saving Society (DLRG) is in charge of swimming supervision. The Kapbusch natural pool (the name comes from the region's typical Cape bush vegetation) has a swimming area of around 14,000 m². The shore area is filled with white sand, and a beach volleyball field is available for sporty guests. In addition to a small children's playground, there is also a swimming island. During the summer months (May to around the end of August) there is a snack kiosk on site, as well as showers and toilet facilities. The water quality is “very good” according to the EU scale. A part of the swimming lake that is closed to swimmers is open for fishing. A boat club on the lake also practices sailing. Sailing on Lake Cape Bush The Hückelhoven sports diving club has had a provisional diving permit since January 2009. Entry for all divers is exclusively via the outdoor pool area. According to the usage permit, diving is only permitted to members of the Hückelhoven sports diving club in the assigned diving zone. In previous years, a triathlon took place in late summer. The proceeds from an annual summer festival are donated to charitable purposes, usually to children's cancer charities. The “Aloa Beach” is located on the lake, a restaurant with a terrace right on the water. The northern part of the lake lies in the 89.70 hectare Kapbusch nature reserve (HS-031), a contiguous forest area that is largely surrounded by intensively used agricultural areas.
