For a long time, the area was also characterized by extensive basket willow cultivation, from which the raw material for the traditional industry of basket making was obtained. Unlike in other regions, pollarded willows were not pruned. The willows were obtained from shoots that grew directly from the rootstock. The plant appearance of the willow cultivation was therefore reminiscent of the coppice farming of the Siegerland and Dill Valley.
