Mount Rushmore is a mountain in the Black Hills in the state of South Dakota and a famous monument showing the heads of Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. The construction of the monument began in 1927 and was finished in 1941 and is also known as Shrine of Democracy with several information boards including parts of the most important speeches.

The mountain's name dates back to the lawyer Charles Rushmore who started a prospecting expedition in 1885. Before that, Mount Rushmore was known as The Six Grandfathers or Cougar Mountain to the Lakota Sioux.

From left to right, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln are immortalized there. The best time to visit Mount Rushmore is first thing in the morning, there is enough parking space, less crowds, very good light and enough time to enjoy everything around.
